[Raisa Garshnek interview 2011]

Viewed at Teatro Verdi, Le Giornate del Cinema Muto, Pordenone, e-subtitles in English and Italian, 3 Oct 2011. Video.

Raisa Garshnek (101) had been interviewed by Peter Bagrov a week and a half ago in Saint Petersburg. She had a good job as a film cleaner at the Lenfilm studios in the 1920s, when she was screen tested for the New Babylon. Among her jobs was film colouring, and she is the one who hand painted the red flag in Battleship Potyomkin. Andrei Moskvin was the number one cinematographer. He lit very well and supervised the hair style and costume design, too. Raisa Garshnek kept her screen test, herself, in Leningrad, and it is now the only surviving Soviet silent screen test.
